Bernadino Sani
Winemaker
Our Winemaker, Bernardino Sani, brings with him a purpose and passion that comes with decades of experience crafting wines for some of the worlds’ most significant estates. As the current Winemaker of the award-winning Argiano (including Wine Spectator, Wine of the Year, 2023), he understands the privilege that comes with restoring historic vineyards. It’s this instinctive respect for the craft that led him from his studies in Florence and Montpellier, to winemaking in Montepulciano, where he consulted for some of the very best and most iconic wineries of Chianti Classico Montepulciano and Montalcino.
His decision to join Monte Rosso Estate is driven by belief. Belief that Monte Rosso has all the ingredients of an iconic vineyard: from its beauty to the age of the vines, to the history behind it and the soil composition. His knowledge of caring for old vines, as well as commitment to organic practices and an old-world style of winemaking, are essential when cultivating a site as delicate as Monte Rosso.
His vision for the estate is simple. To become an iconic winemaking site, a leader in caring organic viticulture and a benchmark for Californian winemaking.

I believe this is one of the best vineyards I've seen in my life.

Juan Alonso
Vineyard Manager
Our Vineyard Manager, Juan Alonso, brings a fresh perspective and energy to this historic vineyard. Born in Michoacan, Mexico, his knowledge of respectful agriculture can be traced back to his time on the family farm. Later, he developed an understanding and passion for enology and viticulture, and achieved a degree at UC Davis.
Nurturing his craft in Solano, Napa and Lake County, he then transitioned into vineyard management. After seven years at Gallo, he has brought that craft to Monte Rosso Estate.
He and his team’s dedication to preserving these irreplaceable vines is both rare and special, and a testament to his deep understanding of organic practices. He believes his role is to be a caretaker of living history, and that changes how he approaches every decision he makes on this legendary estate.

Every vine is different. Every vine tells a story. I look forward to stewarding this vineyard for many years to come.

Diego Del Pino
Estate Director
Our Estate Director, Diego Del Pino, brings twenty years of experience in fine wine, luxury hospitality and brand management to our beloved vineyard. It’s his passion for exceptional food and wine, nurtured at his grandmother’s Sunday gatherings, which took him from Buenos Aires to New York and then to California, and the Monte Rosso Estate. Having learned his craft and earned his sommelier credentials, it’s his love of fine wine and the stories behind them which sparked a relationship with this magnificent place.
His raison d’etre is realised in Monte Rosso Estate, and the people that bring their whole selves to this project. He believes that everyone involved, from Bernardino to Juan and all the ranch hands, are united in purpose every day: to protect and cherish these old vines, for generations to come.
His vision for Monte Rosso Estate is one of greatness, with the vineyard living amongst the most esteemed in the world.

Bringing such a talented team together to work on this fantastic vineyard is an incredible honor.
